A 43-year-old man from Gqeberha is in police custody following his arrest for having a stolen gun in his possession.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the revolver was stolen in the Walmer area 21 years ago.
She says police received information on Thursday about a person spotted with a firearm in a shop in Mbande Street.
Captain Swart says when police arrived at the scene, the alleged suspect was standing in the street.
He ran back into the shop when he noticed the police and was subsequently arrested.
A revolver with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered.
It was later established that the firearm was reported stolen in 2001.
The suspect will appear in the Motherwell Magistrates Court soon.
