A game of cat and mouse in search for missing Karoo lion

The search for an escaped lion continues in the Karoo.

SANparks says the animal escaped from the Karoo National Park near Beaufort West a week ago.

SANparks regional communication manager, Fayroush Ludick says the lion killed several sheep in the past week and that local farmers are helping search for the predator.

She said the search team had been expanded.

"We have got about 20 men on the ground as well as the tracking dogs which is a lot more than last week Friday. We have got staff, rangers and San bushman trackers looking. They have got assistance from Mountain Zebra National park in the form of Expert trackers. The animal was moving further west from the park, the area is extremely mountainous. They spend 17 hours in the field on Thursday which is the longest day yet. They were out again this morning by first light" she said

Ludick says the Lion will not eat every day but only every two, maybe three days.
