Ninety-two people were arrested in East London at the weekend for crimes related to drug and alcohol abuse, Eastern Cape police said.
Among those arrested were 10 drunken drivers and three others for dealing in crack cocaine, Lieutenant Colonel Mtati Tana said on Sunday.
Police concentrated on liquor outlets, searching suspicious people and vehicles at check points.
Crack and powdered cocaine, tik tablets, six bompies of dagga and more than 25 litres of alcohol were found on some of the people arrested.
Police also confiscated 20 knives, a stolen laptop, six cell phones, a wallet with R2710, 40 fake DVD's and an electrical generator.
“We are to continue through out the festive season to keep communities safe from crime,” Tana said. - Sapa
