9-year old East London boy drowns in dam

Police divers in East London were called to the Haya Dam in Tsolo Village late on Saturday afternoon to search for a 9 year old boy who disappeared under the surface.

Capt. Stephen Marais says the boy allegedly went swimming with his 10-year old friend.

He says police divers recovered his body shortly after their arrival, and he was declared dead at the scene,

Marais says at this stage police suspect no foul play and an inquest docket has been opened.

He says a post morten will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
