Five men will appear in court in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday for allegedly being in possession of perlemoen worth hundreds of thousands of Rands.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the suspects, aged between 25 and 35, were arrested on Saturday by members of the Kabega Park police, with the help of the Flying Squad
She said they were following up on a tip-off when they spotted the suspects in a bakkie on the N-2 and pursued the vehicle to Bell Road in Gelvandale where it crashed into a wall.
Naidu said upon further investigation police were led to a house in Rowallan Park where they found five freezers filled with perlemeon
She said two occupants in the house were also arrested.
Police seized a total of 620 kilograms of perlemoen with an estimated street value of R372 000.
