Members of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police were out in full force on Saturday to ensure that lockdown regulations are adhered to.

The Municipality says in a statement 43 people were arrested for failing to adhere to the Disaster Management Regulations by failing to be confined to their place of residence during the lockdown period.

Those arrested were motorists and pedestrians.

Two of those arrested were essential service workers who were not performing essential services at the time.

Metro Police Chief, Yolanda Faro reminded residents that they were only allowed to leave their residence if they were rendering an essential service, when buying groceries, going to the pharmacy or seeking medical attention.

She says they will continue to ensure compliance of the regulations to curb the spread of COVID 19.
