A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the Tsomo Regional Court in the Eastern Cape for the rape of a 64-year-old woman.
The accused, Phumlani Mahlathi, raped the elderly woman on 11 August 2015 around 7pm at the Sihlabeni Village in Ngqamakhwe.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said: "The accused was armed with a sword. He threatened the victim and raped her .The victim was staying alone."
The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit made the arrest after tracing Mahlathi.
