Nelson Mandela Bay Traffic officers have arrested a 23 year old man travelling at 173 kilometres an hour in a 120 kilometre zone on the R75 freeway behind Despatch.
He was taken to the Despatch police station where he was released on R500 bail into his attorney's care and will appear tomorrow in the traffic court on a charge of speeding.
Traffic Department Superintendent Brian Myburgh says the young driver of the Audi was arrested at a quarter to eight this morning, travelling towards Uitenhage on the R75 between Jo Slovo and the Botha Street off ramp.
Myburgh added two officers, who are under his command, arrested him,"They had to chase him or follow him for certain distance and make a recording."
Myburgh said any motorist exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 kilometres an hour on a freeway faces immediate arrest - and its then up to the presiding Magistrate to determine the appropriate fine or sentence.
