"There is no evidence against our client" says Terblanche defence

Murder accused Arnold Terblanche

Wishy-washy, far-fetched and purely circumstantial.

That’s how the State’s case against murder-accused and Gqeberha businessman Arnold Terblanche has been described in the local magistrate's court.

Terblanche is again scrambling to be released on bail following his arrest almost a year ago after his estranged wife Vicki's body was discovered in a shallow grave in Greenbushes.

The defence has made sure to poke as many holes as possible into the strength of the State’s case against the alleged wife killer.

Defence attorney Peter Daubermann did not hold back, taking aim at both State Prosecutor Marius Stander and Investigating Officer Kanna Swanepoel in their handling of the case this far.

Daubermann maintains his client’s innocence, saying the State has not produced any tangible evidence that links Terblanche to Vicki’s murder.

He says Terblanche has been falsely implicated in the crime and should be granted bail - calling the State’s case speculative in the extreme.

This is Terblanche's third attempt at bail.
