Eastern Cape police are urging communities to stay away from the Addo-Kirkwood irrigation canal due to ongoing drownings in the area.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says on Monday morning two children were swept away by water in the canal and police divers were called in to assist.
He says a few hours later the body of four-year-old Khazimla Manqum was discovered in the canal near Nomathamsanqa, while the search for the other child continues.
WO Nkohli says on Wednesday divers were called out yet again following reports of a drowning of a seven-year-old at the same irrigation near Aquapark in Kirkwood.
The child's body was discovered in the afternoon.
He says the canal stretches over 300km and runs past the backyards of many communities outskirts such as Kirkwood, Addo, Paterson, Valencia, Enon and Bersheba.
Police have urged children not to swim in the area.
