'Smelly water' safe to drink in East London

Residents from East London have been assured of the safety of their drinking water after complaints were received about the taste and smell of water in some parts of the city.

The Buffalo City Metro (BCM) responded in a series of tweets by confirming that there was an issue which could be due to the seasonal algae bloom in the dam.
BCM says microbiological tests are done weekly on potable water showing that it is safe to drink.
The Metro says no gastrointestinal infections of stomach pains have been associated with the smell and taste of water.
The city has since increased the dosage of powder activated carbon, to deal with the odour.

Any residents who still experience water issues, are urged to contact the BCM call centre on 043 705 9234/5 for further investigations.
