Two meetings are on the cards in a bid to resolve the local taxi industry impasse that has brought Nelson Mandela Bay to a standstill.
Taxi drivers who are in dispute with their owners over Covid19 payments have been striking since Tuesday, leading to major disruptions.
Nelson Mandela Bay Transport MMC, Rano Kayser, says the first meeting is on Friday at Dan Qeqe Stadium, for a report back to drivers following protracted talks Thursday.
Another meeting of stakeholders is scheduled for Saturday at the Feather Market Centre.
Meanwhile, executive mayor, Nqaba Bhanga, says he wants the army to come and help end the violent protests, that has seen buses being torched, clinics targeted and several arrests being made by police.
Six suspects were arrested and charged for damage to infrastructure and public violence.
Amkelekile Xabengana (22), Ndzuzo Dzebedzebe (25), Siphiwo Luthuli (27), Zoyisile Bobo(37), Ayanda Woza (32) and Vuyani Gqabi(53) appeared at the Motherwell Magistrates Court on Friday where the case was postponed to June for further investigation.
They are accused of burning tyres and breaking light poles on the Addo road along the N2 and throwing them along the N2.
The suspects were remanded in custody.
