A 32-year-old woman who was temporarily thrown out of the Wimbledon Tennis final earlier this year is taking legal action.
Anna Palus is suing Australian player Nick Kyrgios for defamation after he accused her of being drunk and distracting him from his serve.
Kyrgios was facing Novak Djokovic last month who went on to win his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title.
Palus issued a brief statement via her attorneys on Tuesday stating that her removal, which was broadcast around the world to millions of people, caused great distress and damage to her and her family.
She said she was attending the final with her mother on Sunday the 10th of July when Kyrgios made baseless allegations against her.
"I am not litigious, but after much consideration, I have concluded that I have no alternative but to instruct my solicitors Brett Wilson LLP to bring defamation proceedings against Mr Kyrgios to clear my name. The need to obtain vindication, and to prevent a repetition of the allegation, are the only reasons for taking legal action. Any damages recovered will be donated to charity." Palus said.
She said she hoped Kyrgios will reflect on the harm he has caused her and her family and offer a prompt resolution to the matter.
Palus added that she would not hesitate to obtain her vindication in the High Court.
