At least three people were killed and more than 100 injured in twin explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in Massachusetts yesterday.
City police chief, Ed Davis raised the death toll from the two initially reported.
Davis did not want to confirm or deny whether the explosions could be linked to terrorist attacks. The area around the White House was placed under lockdown for security precautions and security was tightened in other key areas, such as New York City.
Massachusetts governor, Deval Patrick says more than 100 people were injured.
