WATCH: The president of Ukraine a former actor, comedian and dancer

The largest demonstration in the modern history of Estonia in support of Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky was elected less than three years ago with no political experience, a former comedian and actor, footage of the 44-year-old has emerged on social media of his appearance on his country's first season of  'Dancing with the Stars'.

The past appearance resurfaced on Saturday when a Twitter user shared a montage of his performances with the caption: “So apparently Zelensky won the Ukrainian version of Dancing with the Stars in 2006 and the tape is even better than whatever you’re imagining.” The clip has since gone viral.

Whatever his former life before entering the political arena, praise for the way he has tackled the invasion of his country by a defiant Putin has earned him approval from many quarters, one of them being the BBC , whose Stephen Mulvey wrote: “He has rallied the nation with his addresses and video selfies and given voice to Ukrainian anger and defiance of Russian aggression.

“While Russian President Vladimir Putin has appeared increasingly erratic - accusing Ukraine of "genocide" in the breakaway Donetsk and Luhansk republics, and talking of the need to "de-Nazify" the country - President Zelensky, from a Russian-speaking Jewish family, has remained dignified, resolute and articulate.”

“These pronouncements have revealed a side that many critics - including a large chunk of the intelligentsia - had not seen coming.”

Russia invaded Ukraine five days ago.
