WATCH: Port Elizabeth-born Belinda Davids stuns Britain's Got Talent judges

Belinda Davids

It was a proud moment for Port Elizabeth born singer Belinda Davids who appeared on the reality TV show, Britain’s Got Talent, in an episode that aired on Saturday night in the UK.

Famous for her role in the hit show The Greatest Love of All: A Tribute to Whitney Houston, the Showtime Australia artist said that she could hardly “contain” her excitement at being given a chance to appear on Britain's Got Talent.

In the preamble to her performance, Davids told Judge Simon Cowell, “I’m a singer and I do Whitney Houston songs. I am competing to further my music career.”

To which Cowell replied, “Well those are tough shoes to fill.”

Despite admitting to some backstage nerves, Davids powerful rendition of Whitney Houston’s song: One Moment in Time brought the house down – the audience rose to their feet to give the 43-year-old singer a standing ovation. And from Simon Cowell the words that must have been music to Davids's ears, “That was the audition we’d been waiting for all season.”

Fellow judge Alesha Dixon said, “What a way to close an amazing run of auditions with a class act. I want to see the name Belinda Davids in lights – you are amazing.” It doesn’t get much better than that.

And now we wait – the BGT producers have been forced to delay production on the remainder of the show due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we have yet to find out whether Davids has made it to the next round or not.

After the audition, she took to Facebook to say," I want to say thank you for the mass support I have received from Britain’s Got Talent. This experience was exhilarating and I hope that my audition made you feel the same way. Thank you again to all of my phenomenal supporters who have been with me since I started my singing journey many years ago & a big hello to all of my new found friends from #BGT!"

Last year Davids received the International Special Recognition Award at the UK's National Tribute Music Awards for her influence on the music industry. The Showtime Australia show The Greatest Love of All: A Tribute to Whitney Houston is to scheduled to run at the Joburg Theatre in August of 2021.

We wish her the best of luck!
