Kylie Minogue has claimed this week’s Number 1 spot on the Official Albums Chart with her new collection DISCO, and in so doing become the first woman to top the official album chart in each of five consecutive decades. That is no mean feat.
Her 15th studio album DISCO, reached No 1 in the week, beating Little Mix’s Confetti in one of the tightest chart battles of 2020. DISCO earned the biggest opening week sales of the year, with 55,000 sales units drawn from streaming, downloads, CDs, vinyl and even a cassette release. DISCO is Kylie’s eighth UK Number 1 album and also her biggest opening week in 10 years since 2010’s Aphrodite.
Dubbed the Princess of Pop by the European media, pint-sized Kylie Minogue is recognised for having stayed relevant for decades in the highly competitive music industry. This new record is further proof of her enormous popularity.
Having sold 70 million records worldwide, Minogue is the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time,she has won a Grammy Award, three Brit Awards and 17 Aria Music Awards.
This eighth Number 1 also means Kylie has now surpassed the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and George Michael in the rare league of artists with the most UK Number 1 albums
