The MTV Video Music Awards took place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Sunday night with Doja Cat doing the hosting duties as music's biggest names vied for VMA glory. The show opened with a pre-taped clip from pop icon Madonna who made VMA history at the 1984 inaugural show with her headline-grabbing performance of Like A Virgin.
The evening saw the most coveted accolade being scooped by Justin Bieber who took home the Artist of the Year Award along with Best Pop for Peaches, featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon. Wearing an oversized jacket and hoodie, upon receiving the award he said, "Music is such an amazing opportunity and an amazing outlet to reach people and to bring us all together." He also took the opportunity to thank his wife Hailey, and Travis Scott: "I look over here and I see my beautiful wife, and I just wanna say I love you so much. Travis Scott, man, you inspire me so much. Thank you for being you."

Bieber also took to the stage at the VMAs for the first time since his emotional breakdown in 2015. After joining Kid Laroi for a performance of their hit song Stay, he sang Ghost off of his recent solo album Justice.
