Earth Hour 2021 took place on Saturday, 27 March from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time - it was the largest Earth Hour that ever happened. However, if you missed it, you can still pledge to make a difference by watching this short video narrated by the inimitable voice of our very own John Kani.
This worldwide movement started by the World Wide Fund for Nature is an annual event, held to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, as a symbol of commitment to planet earth.
The WWF invites us all to “See our planet in a new light”, reminding us that “ 2020 taught us the importance of distance, but the issues facing our planet can only be solved if we unite."
Beautifully narrated by international star, New Brighton-born Kani, it is a haunting depiction of the damage we have wreaked upon this place we call home, and a stark reminder of the broken relationship we have with Mother Nature.
