WATCH: John Boyega’s impassioned anti-racism speech

John Boyega

Twenty-eight-year-old British-Nigerian actor John Boyega joined protestors at Hyde Park in London yesterday as part of the Black Lives Matter movement. The movement has seen protests happen across America and other parts of the world after an unarmed black man by the name of George Floyd died when police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes during an arrest.

With a megaphone in hand and standing outside parliament, Floyd began his speech, visibly emotional, he broke down in tears as he spoke about the pain of being told that your “race means nothing.”  At one point Boyega  stated, "I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this but, f— that."

Boyega told the crowd, “Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting.”

After making the speech the Star Wars brand showed their unfailing support on social media for Boyega who played the role of Finn across three films in the franchise.

There is no doubt in my mind that Boyega’s career is not in jeopardy in any way.

Watch his stirring speech right here – it cuts to the heart.
