WATCH: Grammy Awards 2021 highlights #BlackLivesMatter

Country music star Mickey Guyton

Rapper Lil Baby and female country singer Mickey Guyton both used the Grammys to put racial equality, police brutality, and gender bias under the spotlight.

Lil Baby’s powerful performance of The Bigger Picture focused on police brutality against black people while country artist Mickey Guyton's track Black Like Me, tells of her experiences as a black woman on the country music scene.

Black Like Me, was released last June at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests last year.

In what was the first major music event since the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd at the hands of police last year, black artists were recognized at this year’s Grammy’s in a number of categories.

It was a proud moment for H.E.R, (pictured below), who took home the award for Song of the Year, for the track, I Can't Breathe, a tribute she wrote in response to the killing of George Floyd.
