Six months after his death shocked the world at the age of 43, Boseman has been posthumously awarded the prestigious accolade for his role in the Netflix movie “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
Boseman, who rose to fame after portraying T'Challa in the superhero movie “Black Panther,” won the award for his role as the ambitious trumpet player, Levee Green, in the 1920s jazz drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” The 78th Golden Globes ceremony took place on February 28, nearly two months later than normal, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first bi-coastal ceremony with Tina Fey co-hosting from the Rainbow Room in New York City, and Amy Poehler co-hosting from the Beverly Hilton in Beverley Hills, California.
Boseman's widow, Simone Ledward Boseman, accepted the award on his behalf, breaking down in tears at times and saying that, “He would say something beautiful. Something inspiring. Something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you.. you can. That tells you to keep going … and I don’t have his words.”
