Singer Duncan Campbell has announced his retirement from music after suffering a seizure at his home last week. The sixty-three-year-old musician has spent the past year recovering from a stroke he suffered last August, despite this he had been preparing for the reggae legend’s upcoming UK tour.
He released a statement saying, “Unfortunately, due to continued ill health, I have reluctantly decided to retire from the band so as to focus on my recovery. I am very grateful and would like to express my sincere thanks, to the fans for all their support during this time and indeed throughout my time with UB40. The band has my full support going forward and, of course, my very best wishes for the future with their new singer.”
Duncan’s brother and bandmate Robin Campbell said in a social media post on behalf of UB40: “While we are deeply saddened, we completely understand and fully support his decision. As far as touring goes, we are ready to hit the road for our upcoming summer shows and will be announcing our new frontman imminently.”
Duncan Campbell replaced his brother Ali in the band's lineup in 2008, who left after disagreements over management.
UB40 is one of the most commercially successful reggae bands of all time having sold over 70 million records worldwide, their next concert is set for 30th July in Lingfield, UK.
