Pearl Thusi has had to come out in defense of her skin colour after someone tweeted that she only gets gigs because of her light skin colour.
The twitter frenzy all started after a comment was made that Sho Madjozi had only won a BET Award because of her light skin tone. Reference was then made to Thusi as another example of a celebrity who enjoys success thanks to her skin colour.
Thusi was understandably not impressed and responded by saying : "And 15 years of hard work I've put in means jack sh*t here. It's incredible how your entire being can all come down to your skin colour. I dare them to say this about the likes of Beyonce, Diana Ross, Angela Davis. As if there wasn't an Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone or Miriam Makeba."
The comments have been coming in thick and fast and the twitter thread continues to grow.
I've never denied colourism.

But if you've never been fair skinned--you can't speak on our hardships as well. Being stripped of your identity because you don't fit people's moulds is tough.
And to blame a light skinned person for the favour they get is ridiculous.
