Acclaimed producer and director, Teboho Mahlatsi, has spoken to SowetanLIVE about his bold plans for the retelling of the epic Shaka Zulu story.
Mahlatsi, who is the show's executive producer and co-creator at Bomb Production house, said that they intend to create a drama series that is “both an epic drama for viewers to enjoy, but also respectful of the real history.”
He went on to tell the publication ,"We won't be rehashing the colonial version of Shaka, we are telling an exhilarating African story about a great African king and in the making of this we are equally excited about creating a platform for African talent."
The good news for local actors is that later on in the year he will be embarking on a nationwide search for three unknown actors to play Shaka across the different stages of his life.
Those who are old enough to remember, will recall that the role was played by the much lauded South African actor, Henry Cele, in the 1985 teleivision miniseries. He is pictured below in the role of Skaka. Henry passed away in 2007.
