Oscar-winning actor William Hurt has died two weeks shy of his 72nd birthday. Best known for his roles in Broadcast News, Body Heat, and The Big Chill, Hurt was regarded as one of film’s leading men in the 80s.
He was nominated for an Academy Award three times in a row during his career, winning for Kiss Of The Spider Woman in 1985.
In a statement, the actor's son Will said: "It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday.
"He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time."
Piers Morgan and Antonio Banderas were among the first of many to pay their respects via Twitter.
