Trevor Noah dominates this year’s Webby’s

Congratulations are in order seven times over for Trevor Noah whose hosting of The Daily Show has made him an internet star.

Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 2000 plus member judging body. It is made up of leading Internet experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities and Associate Members who are former Webby Winners or  Nominees.

Each category is divided into a Webby Award, chosen by members of the academy while The Webby People’s Voice is awarded by the voting public. Each year, The Webby People’s Voice Awards garners millions of votes from all over the world and it's clear that Noah is a huge hit with both the Academy and the voting public.

Noah took home the Webby Award for Best Web Personality/Host, Video and the Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for Comedy: Shortform, Video.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah won a Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award in the Humour, Social category.

And wrapping up his slew of awards, his recently launched The Trevor Noah Podcast won a Webby Award and Webby People’s Voice Award for News & Politics, Podcasts.

A grateful Noah took to Instagram to express his excitement at winning 7 Webby’s, his post read: "How I’m celebrating today! Thank you to @thedailyshow & @hearluminary teams for all the hard work! 7 Webbys? Wow!  Forbes_Gang".

And along with the post a really cute video - congrats Trev!

It’s interesting to note the first internet streaming and usage figures are coming in as the coronavirus pandemic keeps a quarter of the world’s population under lockdown.  According to Forbes, “As millions of people go online for entertainment and more, total internet hits have surged by between 50% and 70%, according to preliminary statistics. Streaming has also jumped by at least 12%, estimates show.”
