Steve Hofmeyr has spoken to TshisaLIVE about his disappointment over MultiChoice’s decision to stop flighting any of his material across all its platforms.
In the interview, he went on to say that he had voted for a new SA to free his colleagues from this “type of old school censorship.”
The controversial singer had previously stated on his social media account that "blacks are the architects of apartheid", he had also persisted in singing Die Stem (the apartheid-era national anthem) at concerts and festivals. The 2014 tweet had resurfaced on social media causing MultiChoice to blacklist him.
This decision will probably have far-reaching effects for Steve as the company has also vowed to not give him any other opportunities to earn money on its channels.
Steve went on to tell TshisaLIVE that he would not fight the decision, except where contracts are broken and would move his content to other platforms looking for content. He also said that he would continue to fight for the “woes” of his “tribe”.
Reaction has been mixed on social media with some applauding the company and others accusing them of “censoring” Steve.
