Showmax has revealed in a press statement that Somizi & Mohale: The Union "just broke the all-time record for the number of views on its first day on Showmax, ahead of both the Showmax Original The Girl from St Agnes and the most popular international series ever screened on the platform."
According to the screening giant, local shows also rake in new subscribers and currently, views of local content are up more than 40% in less than a year.
Showmax has been showcasing local content for over a year now with series like The River, The Queen, and Lockdown pulling in viewers. So, when Idols SA judge and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo and his fiancè Mohale Motaung expressed their desire to have a wedding like no other, Showmax was quick to secure the exclusive rights to broadcast the extravagant ceremonies as a four-part special.
Somizi and Mohale: The Union started streaming on Showmax this past Monday (24 February) and covered their traditional wedding. The series ends with their flamboyant white wedding as the finale on 16 March.
