Sir Cliff Richard has sparked outrage after saying he would rather see 10 guilty sexual predators evade the might of the law than see one innocent person suffer a wrongful accusation.
The 78-year-old entertainer made the controversial remark during an appearance on the British television show Loose Women yesterday.
He was speaking on the show about moving on with his life after having been wrongfully accused of historical sex abuse earlier in the year. Sir Cliff said the law needed to change to protect the innocent. He won a High Court privacy battle with the media the BBC earlier in the year over its coverage of a 2014 police search of his home. He has never been charged with any offence.
Viewers expressed outrage over his comment on twitter. The fallout will no doubt continue.
