As 16 days of activism continues, Amber Heard who spoke out about the abusive relationship she had while married to Johnny Depp in 2015-2017, speaks out and her words support the cause.
After opening up about the abuse she received from the popular actor Johnny Depp, Amber was met with hostility and shame.
The actress states that many try to discredit women who blow the whistle on domestic abuse and always seek alternative reasons to make the actions of the man acceptable.
Amber is quoted by Glamour Magazine saying that "when a woman comes forward, she will be met with skepticism, hostility, and shame. All a man has to do is point to an incentive. He will. Or society will.”
In the interview, Amber continues by sharing how actresses are paid less even while spending more hours on set than their male counterparts.
This isn't only an issue in Hollywood, many women in the corporate world are experiencing the same.
One universal issue that transcends all sectors is female sexuality and the interpretation of it.
Amber, like many other women in her industry, is taking a stance against the expectations of others.
“There’s an implicit apology expected of me for my participation in feminine beauty, but I can’t play into this false narrative that my sexuality is mutually exclusive from my power.
“My physical appearance, no matter how it affects others, is solely the responsibility of people around me. You know, male characters in movies included. It is their responsibility, not a woman’s.
“My sexuality, my femininity, in whatever way I want to express it, is mine and my own.”
