Rihanna: Recipient of the 2016 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award

Rihanna is known for her extreme visual and subject matter in her music videos. Like her live performances, there is no limit to the extent in which Rihanna will express herself. Now she will join the likes of Beyonc? and Kanye West by being the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

In appreciation of the award, Rihanna tweeted the following:

This award is named after the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson and recognises contributions made to music and pop culture. It isn't handed out every year and it has to be earned. Rihanna has definitely earned it by holding the all-time record for digital sales of more than 100 million. She has also won the Video Music Award twice before. First in 2007 for her video 'Umbrella' and secondly for 'We found Love'.

For the 2016 VMA's she is nominated for, Best Female Video for 'Work', Best male Video, for her contribution to Calvin Harris' 'This is what you cam for' and to in the Best Collaboration category for 'Work' and 'This is what you came for'.

The VMA's will happen on Sunday 28 August.
