The MTV Europe Music Awards canceled this year's event Thursday on account of the Israel-Hamas War.
The awards evening had been scheduled to take place on November 5 in Paris with David Guetta, Ozuna, Renée Rapp, and Thirty Seconds to Mars among the performers in the lineup.
A company spokesperson said: “The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”
The statement also said the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.”

Although the event has been called off, voting is continuing and the winning artists will still receive their MTV EMA Awards. Details of how winners will be announced have not yet been confirmed.
MTV said the EMAs would return in November 2024.
France has been on high alert since the Gaza-ruling Hamas terror group’s devastating attack on Israel on October 7 and the killing of a French school teacher in the city of Arras on 13 October.
According to Sky News the country's interior minister, Gerald Darmanin, said the suspected Islamist attack was linked to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
