Durban’s Northwood High School‘s goosebump-making support for the Bokke in the form of a stirring rendition of “Shosholoza" is racking up views across all social media platforms.
On Facebook, the accompanying text reads: “When our boys find their voices, combined with WCR spirit, a little magic happens!"
"Today saw Northwood turn green and gold as our Squires and Knights showed their support and indelible 'gees'! We are indeed Stronger Together! Go Bokke!!!”
"Shosholoza" is an Nguni song that was sung by the mixed tribes of gold miners in South Africa. It was famously sung by the late former South African President Nelson Mandela when he worked during his imprisonment on Robben Island in the apartheid years.
The song gained further popularity during the 1995 Rugby World Cup, triumphantly won by South Africa. It is often referred to as Mzansi's 'second national anthem.'
