Despite posting on his twitter account that he expected to be back on stage soon, and given no indication that he might need surgery, it has been reported on various US entertainment sites that the Rolling Stones iconic lead singer, Mick Jagger, will undergo heart surgery to replace a damaged valve.
At the weekend the 75-year-old Rolling Stones frontman was told by doctors that he could not perform and was advised to cancel the American and Canadian leg of his current tour. Apparently, he will have to have stent surgery, a relatively common practice in matters of the heart these days and with a quick recovery period. There are some conflicting reports that he may receive keyhole surgery and have the heart valve replaced. If left untreated, a blocked artery or damaged valve could lead to a heart attack so he is lucky to have caught it in time.
Fortunately for Jagger he should bounce back pretty quickly as although admitting to doing hard drugs in his early days with the band, he is something of a health guru these days. He follows a punishing fitness regime, eats only organic food and does not drink.
Although it was reported earlier that he was already in hospital , this does not appear to be the case as he was spotted enjoying a day out on the beach in Miami on Sunday, allaying fears that there is something seriously wrong with him. He was photographed with his two-year-old son Deveraux, girlfriend Melanie Hamrick and daughter Georgia May.
