Felicity Huffman has found herself in a damming situation, and one that could possibly damage her career.
News broke this week of her involvement in a massive college exam entrance scam that would afford her children the opportunity to gain acceptance to elite universities such as Yale and Stanford.
Following on the uncovering of her involvement, the actress appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday to face a judge. She was required to surrender her passport and will have to seek pretrial permission should she wish to travel anywhere.
The mother of two was granted a signature bond of R 3 595 587,50. The signature bond requires Huffman to sign a promise to return to court but does not require a deposit of any cash or property with the court.
Felicity was one of nearly 40 individuals charged in connection with an alleged college entrance exam scheme. They have all been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Fellow celebrity Lori Louglin and her husband Massimo Giannulli were also found to have taken part in the scam.
According to E!News, the FBI investigation—that was code-named Operation Varsity Blues—uncovered a network of wealthy parents who paid thousands of dollars to a California man who boosted their children’s' chances of gaining entrance into many sought after colleges.
Ironically, Huffman's twitter post on the 7th March encouraged her followers to "live by their own rules".
