For the uninitiated, Bird Box is a thriller on Netflix about a mother trying to get her children to safety after an apocalypse caused by supernatural beings. However, they must escape while being blindfolded to protect themselves from the villains as casting their eyes upon these unearthly creatures would cause them to be driven mad and eventually kill themselves.
However, Netflix is aghast at something called the Bird Box Challenge which shows people trying to perform everyday tasks while blindfolded before posting videos of their attempts on social media.
Netflix is understandably worried that someone could hurt themselves and have consequently issued a warning to fans.
The company wrote: "Can't believe I have to say this but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE."
Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.
