The late actor who died last August at the age of 43 after a long battle with cancer was honoured together with his co-star from the last movie he appeared in before his untimely death.
Boseman can currently be seen on Netflix in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom together with his co-star, Academy award-winning actress ,Viola Davis.
They were both the recipients of this year's Gotham Awards Tribute prize. The awards show, took place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City Monday and was streamed live via the Independent Filmmaker Project's Facebook page.
A moment of silence was held for the actor, followed by a montage of his best work in films such as 42, Marshall, Black Panther and Da 5 Bloods. Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award on his behalf saying in her thank you speech, "I love you, I am so proud of you. Keep shining your light on us."
Director Steve McQueen and writer Ryan Murphy also received tribute awards.[5]
The Gotham awards honour the best independent filmmaking released between January 2020 and February 2021.
Originally scheduled to take place on November 20, 2020, the ceremony was pushed back by two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
