(WATCH) Man threatens to burn down Kimberley High Court

Joe Lourens

Screengrab on TikTok

A man who threatened to petrol bomb the High Court in Kimberley has made a brief appearance in the Magistrates Court.

Fifty-one-year-old Joe Lourens took to TikTok where he accused officers in the court to be involved in corrupt activities.

In the video, he refers to a case he opened in 2021 that was transferred from Kathu to Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

Police spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi says Lourens also posted a picture of a container, claiming that it contained petrol that he would use to bomb the court.

In the video, he gave SAPS an ultimatum to arrest the so-called corrupt officials by the 16th of December or he would take action.

He says when police went to the suspect's house they found evidence supporting the charges.

The National Prosecuting Authority was not available to comment on whether or not Lourens was granted bail.
