Police in Polokwane have opened an inquest docket after two Social Workers died in a house fire.
Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the couple who worked at the Limpopo Department of Social Development died, reportedly after having a domestic dispute on Sunday.
He says it is alleged that a 38-year-old man sent his son to the shop to buy petrol for their generator.
"When the child returned he sent him back to the shop to buy some food, but when the boy arrived back he saw his house on fire, surrounded by people, he said.
When police arrived on the scene the house was already burnt to the ground.
The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Christopher Mudau and 35-year-old Thovhowani Masakona.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly warned people, especially those in relationships, to desist from resorting to violence when confronted by domestic challenges.
