A Vietnamese national has been arrested in connection with the illegal trade in wildlife and possession of a firearm following a raid on properties in Bela-Bela and Pretoria on Thursday.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment says the arrest follows after a four-month investigation by the Green Scorpions, the Department of Agriculture, SANParks, and the police.
Spokesperson, Albi Modise says the team seized 4kg of lion teeth, 680g of lion claws, and more than 60 kg of what is believed to be lion gelatine, as well as an illegal firearm.
The suspect appeared in court yesterday and the case was postponed to 20 August to secure the services of a Vietnamese interpreter.
