Two Zimbabwean nationals will spend the next week behind bars following their arrest on charges of perjury.
A spokesperson for Mpumalanga police Brigadier Selvy Mohlala says the suspects allegedly stole money from the Casino business they work for and then opened a case of armed robbery to cover their tracks.
He says 23-year-old Margaret Ndlovu and 19-year-old Tladiwa Madzokere arrived at the Belfast police station on Friday to open a case of business robbery.
Brig Mohlala says police soon realised that their stories did not make sense and established that they took money from the business for themselves and then colluded to give false statements to police.
He says the duo appeared in the Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday where the case was remanded to the 27th of December.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela praised members of the Police for their vigilance and the appropriate action that they took against the two suspects.
"We would like to take this opportunity and warn people that whoever takes a chance to open a false case will be dealt with accordingly," she said.
