Two robbery suspects have been shot and killed and six others arrested following a shootout with police in Malmesbury near Cape Town.
Colonel Andrè Traut, says police members responded to a robbery in Holomisa street on Thursday night where nine men had held up two spaza shop owners at gunpoint.
The men fled in a white minibus taxi with cigarettes, an undisclosed amount of money and airtime.
They were spotted at a petrol station in Darling where a shootout ensued.
Colonel Traut says two suspects were killed and six men between the ages of 26 and 33 were arrested.
One of them got away while two unlicensed 9mm pistols were recovered.
