A teenager from Mopani in the Limpopo Province who was allegedly raped by her grandfather and his friends has managed to escape what she says was a two-year ordeal.
Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the 14-year-old victim says the first was first raped two years ago when she was just 12.
He says the assault would take place on days that the grandmother was not home.
According to the victim, her grandfather would bribe her with money to keep quiet.
Mojapelo says he later brought his friends over who also had to pay to have sex with the child.
The victim managed to escape and alerted neighbours about her ordeal.
The 65-year-old pensioner has been arrested and will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrates Court on Monday.
The Police Ministery announced the annual crime stats for the country on Friday which showed an increase of 1.7% for sexual offences in the last financial year.
