Two car hijacking suspects are due to appear in court on Monday after being found with two stolen luxury cars and an assortment of firearms.
Police said the two were arrested this past week for the alleged kidnapping of a motorist on Monday 11 January during which the driver was held hostage for several hours.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said the arrests were made on Thursday at a house in Sharpeville by members of a multi-disciplinary task team.
"A search of the vehicles and the premises led to the discovery of a total of 10 firearms, plus seven magazines, over 180 ammunition of different firearms, explosives, signal jammer, and housebreaking implements,” he said.
Peters said the firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if they were used in the commission of other crimes.
He said the two men, aged 35 and 40, would face charges of the illegal possession of suspected hijacked vehicles and being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
