Two restaurant managers from Gauteng have been summoned to appear in court following their arrest this weekend for openly selling liquor to patrons.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo says they pounced on the two popular restaurants in Sandton and Silverton following a tip-off.
He says when police arrived at the restaurants they found them to be filled to capacity and alcohol was served openly to patrons.
Health protocols were also not adhered to.
Captain Masondo says the two managers were arrested and charged with the contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
Police also confiscated liquor worth R600 000.
In Silverton in Tshwane, police were conducting routine patrols on Friday after the 9 pm curfew when they noticed cars parked at a popular franchise restaurant.
On enquiring, police found the restaurant operating and about eleven people drinking alcohol on site.
Captain Masondo says in the storeroom they found alcohol in ice buckets ready to be served.
He says a further 162 people were arrested in the province over the weekend for not being at home during the curfew, while a 34-year-old man was arrested for failing to put on his mask when he was ordered to do so.
