Two men died and two others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in hit a road sign on the Soweto highway in the early hours of Monday morning.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar says the driver of a car lost control on the highway and crashed into a concrete pillar of a road sign at about 3.30am.
The driver and one passenger died instantly.
Two more passengers were taken to hospital.
Metro police later established that the car had been stolen in Roodepoort in January.
