Research into more South African meat products, have highlighted additional concerns around what people eat.
Scientists from the University of the Western Cape say most of the country's biltong products are labelled incorrectly.
DNA test results have revealed that game biltong is the worst affected with giraffe, pork and even kangaroo being found in some packets labelled as 'kudu'.
The news follows government's announcement on Thursday that a probe into the incorrect labelling of meat products, will be done by the National Consumer Commission.
The alarm was raised after earlier research revealed that goat, water-buffalo and donkey-meat had been found in some food items.
Consumer journalist Wendy Knowler says the public has the right to know what they are buying.
"There is never going to be enough DNA tests going on for us to know in every case that what is on the label is actually in the meat, so it boils down to consumers continuing to ask questions when last DNA testing was done and then just stick with a retailer who you trust" Knowler said.
