The government is planning to designate another 15 sites as national key points, in terms of legislation carried over from the apartheid era.
The Cape Times reports that the 2013 police budget increases the number of national key points from 182 to 197 in the new financial year which starts in April.
It also specifies 248 strategic installations.
However, these have not been identified.
The 1980 National Key Points Act provides for the setting up of an account specifically to fund the key points, but this account does not appear in the budget.
The secretive funding of national key points became a hot topic when it emerged that more than R200m had been spent on upgrading security at president Jacob Zuma's private home at Nkandla which has been designated a national key point.
