Twelve people were killed and six others injured following a head-on collision between a truck and taxi on an intersection in Northdale in Kwazulu Natal between Maritzburg and Wartburgon on Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson for ER24 Russel Meiring says when paramedics arrived at the scene at the intersection of the R33 and R614 they found they taxi upright in the middle of the road while the truck was on its side, leaking fuel.
He says wounded people were lying scattered around the scene while two were found trapped inside the taxi.
Meiring says twelve people were declared dead on the scene.
Two of the six injured patients sustained critical injuries.
